 Jasmine Villegas - Natural

2011
Directed by: Alfredo Flores
Record Label: Mosci Musics

  • It starts off with a shot of the waves crashing then a long shot of seagulls flying in the sky, this sets the tone for the audience and allows them to familiarise themselves with where the video is going to be shot. This location also connotes happiness, beauty and peacefulness.

  • Then it goes to a close up shot of Jasmine looking down then lip synching to the song, this allows the audience to familiarise themselves with the singer. She is also wearing white which connotes peace and makes her seem angelic and pure.

  • I like the flashback scenes of her and her boyfriend, it adds to the “emotion” of the song. I also like how it is meant to replicate an old film reel by it being black and white and having blurry edges.
Shots like this are shown throughout the video.

  • I particularly like this shot because of the editing used which was overlapping. The two shots used were a close up shot of Jasmine lip synching and a medium shot of part of the waves. I like the contrast between them.
This is visually appealing to the audience.

I like this long shot of Jasmine running beside the water and playing around. I like it the most because of the lighting hitting the behind of her which creates a reflection in the sand and I also like how we can see the waves crashing which is very relaxing.

  • This music video did not have any high or low angle shots but they did have a lot of close up shots.
The close up shots allow the audience to familiarise themselves with Jasmine and it also emphasises her beauty and draws the audience in because it makes them think she is singing to them.
Notice star image make-up, voyeurism – bare shoulders

It ends with a medium shot of Jasmine lip synching the last line, then the camera goes down to a close up tracking shot her feet while she is walking then it goes pans up her whole body then swiftly moves to the right of the screen towards the sun then fades to white.
This suits the pace of the song and lets it finish on a peaceful note.

EDITING & TECHNIQUES

  • The editing is very smooth and subtle to suit the pace and tone of the song.
  • A lot of fading into colours is used in the music video, this gives it the summery feeling.
  • When editing lip synching and temporal changes have to be followed.

WHY I LIKED THE VIDEO AND HOW I'M GOING TO USE IT

  • I like that that is shows her playing around and it involves a lot of nature.

  • I also like the flashbacks

  • But in particular I like the ending, it inspired me to use and ending similar to that.

  • I also like that it was not an official video but it was an amateur video that was simple but effective.
