This is some research on directors that are very popular in today's music video culture. They all have different styles of filming.

Hype Williams

  • Harold ‘Hype’ Williams was born in 1970s in Queens, New York, USA.
     
  • He has won countless awards for his work, these are just some
     -Billboard Music Video Award for Best Director of the Year (1996)
     - the Jackson Limo Award for Best Rap Video of the Year (1996) for Busta Rhymes' "Woo Hah,"
     - NAACP Image Award (1997),
     -the 8th annual MVPA Award for Black Music Achievement (1997)
  • He has worked with many influential celebrities in the black community such as Busta Rhymes, Janet Jackson, Beyonce, Notorious BIG, LL Cool J and Aalyiah.
  • He has his personal visual style which is shown in some of his videos such as the Fish eye Lense (Busta Rhymes – Gimmie some more) and the split screen (Neyo – So Sick).
  • He also likes to adapt styles for an example he made a hip hop artist music video an animation (Kanye West – Heartless).

Jonas Åkerlund

  • He was born 10th November 1965.
  • He is a Swedish music and film director.
  • He has won many awards a very famous one was a Grammy in 1999 for Best Short Film with the video Ray Of Light by Madonna.
     
  • He has worked with many people such as Madonna, Pink, Lady Gaga, J.Lo, Mika, Rihanna and others.
  • He has a very distinct visual style which is making mini films with a strong narrative and visual style. He also likes to approach taboo subjects by creating bizarre, disturbing and dark things.
  • He gets his inspiration from watching previous movies and music videos.

Collin Tilley

  • He was born on 27th June 1988 in Berkley, California, USA.
  • He is a part of Riverting Entertainment.
  • He has received many awards for his work some in particular are the BET 2011 Best Video of The Year for his work on Chris Brown’s video- Look At Me Now. Also a VMA for Best Male Video 2011 with Justin Bieber – U Smile.
  • He was worked with a range of international stars such as Justin Bieber, Chris Brown, TYGA, Chipmunk, JLS, Mary J Blige, Dappy and many more.
  • He gets his inspiration for previous videos and culture.
  • His directing style is very laid back which some people say it’s the Californian style.
